Castletown Castle

Monksdale Castle

Occupying a commanding position at the head of a valley, the castle was the ancestral home of the Baron DeLumm, a powerful nobleman in the court of William of Normandy. DeLumm led a company of archers at the Battle of Hastings, and always claimed that it was one of his men who caused the demise of the English King Harold.

After the conquest, DeLumm was granted a large holding of land in the north. He built his first castle close to the site of an Augustinian Priory. The DeLumms bought the priory after the dissolution of the monasteries and used the stone to enlarge the castle.

Unfortunately, the DeLumms sided with the Crown during the Civil War, after which the castle was slighted - it was never rebuilt. The family passed into obscurity and now only exists in this fictional tale.
